Administrators can configure users by going to their avatar on the top right, then click Users under Site Administration. A user can:

  • be moved between the following type of users
  • configure their settings

Looking for FogBugz users? Check the article here.

There are two kinds of user accounts in Kiln.

Types of Users

Normal

A normal user. Normal users have access to the default Repositories group by default with Modify permissions.

Under the user’s avatar at the top right, a normal user also has permission to:

  • Configure their settings
  • Configure their SSH keys (On Demand only)
  • Download the Kiln Client and Tools

Administrator

There must be at least one Administrator user on an account at any given time. Any user can be promoted by one of the existing Administrators to become an Administrator themselves, and an Administrator can demote any other Administrator to one of the other types of user accounts (but they cannot demote themselves).

An administrator has permission to do anything in Kiln:

  • Access the Kiln Administration menu:
    • Configure Access Tokens
    • Configure IP Whitelists (On Demand only)
    • Configure Projects
    • Configure Web Hooks
  • Access the Site Administration menu:
    • Configure and add users, and change their passwords
    • Configure user groups
    • Configure all site wide settings including Mail, Authentication, and Regional (and Database, Search, Advanced in For Your Server)
    • Install new licenses (For Your Server only)
  • Access and manage all Kiln projects, groups, repositories and permissions thereof

In addition to these site-wide administrators, you can designate any user as an administrator over a project or repository. See Permissions.

Note: For Kiln For Your Server, there is one built-in Administrator account which is free. For example, if you purchase licenses for 10 users, you can actually have 11 accounts.
